DC West
The meet schedule was ever changing in reaction to the forecast. In the end, it ended up raining during the races and was sunny and warmer after the races were over; completely opposite of the initial forecast, of course. But we persevered and the course was a little damp in places and a few puddles, but it made things interesting! None of the Middle School Boys had run Cross Country before, but Cayden Miller and Jonathan Rico both ran track, so they had some idea of what to expect. Jayden Bailey and Steven Flores got their first taste of competition in a school sponsored event. The Middle School race was about 2400 yards (weird distance, but that makes it about 1.3 miles). Josslyn Crispin was our lone female athlete. She ran last year and picked up right where she left off. Results Steven Flores 12:56.01, 9:56 PPM, 39th place Jayden Bailey 12:09.96, 9:20 PPM, 33rd place Cayden Miller 11:12.81, 8:36 PPM, 26th place Jonathan Rico-Avalos 8:12.94, 6:18 PPM, 1st place!! Josslyn Crispin 10:00.45, 7:41 PPM, 2nd place Medals were given to the top 10 MS boys and top 10 MS girls. Jonathan and Josslyn ran BEAUTIFUL races to earn their medals. Clarinda The MS boys and girls ran together in one huge race. They were separated out for awards. This time, they ran approximately 3000m, compared to the 2400 yards (about 2400m) that they ran last week. So this distance was about a 1/3 of a mile longer than their previous distance. However, the distance seemed to be a non-factor for the Pioneers. Earning top 20 ribbons were JR Rico and Josslyn Crispin. JR Rico continued his winning ways with a first place finish in dominant fashion, beating the runner up by nearly a minute and a half. JR's time was 11:12.78, with a PPM of 6:00; an 18 second per mile improvement from last week. Steven Flores finished in 28th place in a time of 16:18.21 with a PPM of 8:44; a 1:12 improvement per mile from last week. Cayden Miller finished in 32nd with a time of 16:44.83 with a PPM of 8:58 per mile. Jayden Bailey finished in 37th with an 18:14.20 and a PPM of 9:46. Both Jayden and Cayden succumbed to the hills of Clarinda and the added distance as their Pace Per Mile was slightly less than the previous outing. Josslyn Crispin ran an excellent race for yet another second place finish. She was about 30 seconds behind the leader and 3rd place was 30 seconds behind her. She ran a 13:24.77 with a PPM of 7:11. That is about 30 seconds per mile faster than last week.
